About Us

History

Back in 1946, when Ben, Donald and Farnham Smith founded the company, Concord Lumber served local contractors and retail customers in and around Concord, MA from a small store with six employees and two delivery trucks. In 1963, George Senkler (Farnhams stepson) assumed management of the business and began a program of controlled expansion. By 1987, 49 employees assisted customers and eight delivery trucks were on the road every day.

Today
Today, the Smiths and Mr. Senklers legacies are secure. Current Concord Lumber Corporation (CLC) has 150 employees in five divisions - Concord Lumber, Littleton Lumber, Forester Millwork, Forester Moulding and The Kitchen Works. An architecture department staffed by a registered architect and two assistants produces designs for builders and homeowners. There are 25 sales representatives on the road, and 17 trucks make deliveries to the Cape, the North Shore, Worcester, and southern New Hampshire. Typical projects include subdivisions, as well as custom homes, additions, kitchen remodels and handyman repairs.

Impressive growth during the first 50 years was followed by greater success in following years. Fueled by an economy that encouraged new construction and remodeling, CLCs gross revenues grew by 31% from 1997 through 2000. In 2001, Mr. Senkler sold the business to his employees through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), but the foundation he put in place helped carry the company forward, as sales increased by another 44% during the next four years.

CLC continued to capitalize on opportunities in 2007.

In 2007, CLC acquired Forester Moulding & Lumber, a custom millwork manufacturing company. Because it is an established company with a great reputation, we kept the Forester name. It is now known as Forester Moulding. The products that Forester specializes in extend and complement the work produced by Forester Millwork.

Also in 2007, in response to customer requests, we created an Installed Projects department to install windows and exterior doors for homeowners and builders.

We now look forward to many more years of continued service
and growth.
