Industry Forecast - Lumber Pricing & Market Predictions

LUMBER: Another flat week in the market, but mills are still looking to move some lumber and deals are out there to be made on some items. For sure it's not 2x12, as this is scarce and in very tight supply. Still waiting for what is true supply and demand. PANEL: Panel prices stayed flat to down. I look for further erosion here. Let's see where demand is in the coming weeks. Paul Tarca Head of Purchasing Concord Lumber Corporation ptarca@concordlumbercorp.com

Industry Forecast - Lumber Pricing & Market Predictions

LUMBER: Somewhat of another flat week with some downward pressure. Prices are getting dangerously low again for mills to survive. I look for the mill curtailments and closures to have a real effect in the weeks and months ahead. In any case it's a great time to build with lumber and not steel due to rising costs on all metals. PANEL: Panel prices stayed flat to down. I look for further erosion here. Let's see where demand is in the coming weeks. During the summer months, outdoor workers are at heightened risk of heat-related illnesses, ranging from mild heat rash to potentially deadly heatstroke. “It’s not like you just provide them water and that solves the problem,” one expert says. “It starts with an effective plan.” To learn more about how to prevent heat related illnesses, view the full article from Safety+Health here.

Industry Forecast - Lumber Pricing & Market Predictions

LUMBER: A very flat week this week in the market. My sense is mills just don't want, or can't go much lower. Demand seemed steady but just not enough to bump prices up. When we feel the effects of all the mill curtailments is when we will see supply in check with demand.

LUMBER: Economic news is fair, housing starts are flat to down, demand is off, supply is trying to level out but there just not enough buyers. The modest run up we had for the last few weeks has evaporated and prices are off. The lone exception here is 2x12. There is a real, not artificial shortage and prices reflect that. PANEL: Panel prices stayed flat to down. I look for further erosion here. Let's see where demand is in the coming weeks.
